On Monday, two members of the DMIC team – Emily Pearce (Ngai Tahu) and Generosa Leach – attended the launch of Kōkirihia: The Plan for Removing Streaming from our Schools at Te Whare o te Waipounamu, Ngai Tahu Tribal headquarters in Christchurch. Over the last two years, Tokuna te Raki has worked with key education agencies, organisations, and stakeholders to develop the action plan for the removal of streaming from our education system. We were invited to join in celebrating the transformative and collaborative approach to ensure all tamariki and rangatahi experience equity on their journey through education. Developing Mathematical Inquiry Communities features as a success story where students are provided with opportunities to learn mathematics through high expectations, challenging mathematics tasks, and an alternative approach to ability grouping.
