Unpacking the Mathematics Curriculum Refresh including the Understand, Know, Do Structure:
This mathematics curriculum refresh workshop delves into the Understand, Know and Do structure. This hands-on workshop will unpack and support teacher understanding of these three areas. A focus will be on giving practical ideas of how to implement the five ‘dos’ (processes) in the classroom programme. This will include example tasks across the six strands of mathematics suitable for Year 0 to 8 students. Guidance on how to explicitly teach students to enact these practices during mathematics lessons. This workshop will consist of interactive sessions, which will cover all phases.
Conceptual Starters:
The start of your maths lesson is the perfect opportunity to develop conceptual mathematical understanding. Use this time not for “warm ups”, practicing known facts or playing games, but as an opportunity for explicit teaching and extending student knowledge. With careful planning you can revitalise this time to embed conceptual understanding in students, develop number sense, and extend student learning. This hands on course across the curriculum phases will support teacher understanding of conceptual starter activities connected to the Mathematics curriculum refresh, and explicitly plan these starters for intentional teaching. The course will also include examples of how to use these starters in independent sessions, for students to continue developing their knowledge.
